REO Sees 20% Growth During a Period of Widespread Stagnation
Research Electro-Optics (REO) is a manufacturer of advanced optics for the defense, aerospace, semiconductor, medical and industrial markets. REO recently celebrated their 40th anniversary, employs approximately 230 people and operates out of Boulder, CO.
Given that Boulder has become one of three main hubs of optics manufacturing in the country, REO has an excellent vantage point and is able to witness current trends and activities within the market and amongst their competitors. One recent trend has been a widespread plateau where many other optics companies have been, and continue to be, largely stagnant.
Continually striving to remain vital, REO has sought training assistance from Manufacturer’s Edge several times over the past few years. Recent efforts have focused on lean manufacturing, S5, and kaizen. President & CEO, Paul Kelly, says that he enjoys watching the five-day process where trainers come in on Monday and “by Friday equipment has been moved and systems are already in place. It’s a phenomenal change that happens over a short period of time.”
As a result of REO’s efforts, they have experienced more than 20% growth in an environment that is currently flat. Additionally, their customer satisfaction rates are astronomical. According to a recent survey, 98% of their customers said that they would recommend REO’s services thanks to their improving execution, on-time delivery, short lead times, and significant cost reductions.
As further testament to REO’s impact, they recently went to the UK to accept the SC21 (Supply Chain) Bronze award, making them the first American company to have ever received this honor.
The support provided for our continuous improvement efforts has been outstanding. The trainers provided for our Kaizen events were knowledgeable and experienced professionals who have vastly improved our capabilities and positioned us to grow our business.Paul C. Kelly, REO President & CEO
