CO-LABS: National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
Global Monitoring Division Tour
Date: May 30, 2019
Address: 325 Broadway, Boulder CO
The NOAA Earth System Research Laboratory’s Global Monitoring Division conducts research that addresses three major challenges; greenhouse gas and carbon cycle feedbacks, changes in clouds, aerosols, and surface radiation, and recovery of stratospheric ozone. GMD maintains 4 baseline atmospheric observatories (Pt. Barrow, Alaska; Mauna Loa, Hawaii: Cape Matatulu, American Samoa; and South Pole, Antarctica) and has over 40 cooperative stations contributing to our network from international agencies, universities, military bases, and corporations around the world. The GMD’s mission is to acquire, evaluate, and make available accurate, long-term records of atmospheric gases, aerosol particles, clouds, and surface radiation in a manner that allows the causes and consequences of change to be understood. Come learn the “HOW” behind the climate science conversations in the news.
