How do you build the elusive “everyone, every minute, every day” continuous improvement mindset and habit in your organization? How can managers and workers avoid “kaizen event dependence” and work effectively together to stay on track and problem solve in a dynamic environment? How can you create team focus on challenging goals and navigate the grey zone between here and there? Join us for our July First Friday to get an overview of Kata and how it can help with these dilemmas.
Kata gives members of an organization a powerful way to build a collaborative continuous improvement process to navigate uncertainty, develop solutions and achieve goals. Kata may be a term familiar to those practicing martial arts, where it refers to familiarity with habits or routines that form “muscle memory.” In the Toyota Production System, Kata is used to establish the underlying disciplined thinking process – “mental memory”- for improving, adapting and innovating by practicing a systematic, standard routine. For all of us, it is a teachable pattern for working logically towards objectives in complex systems.
